Summary

CloneFest 2.0 was an Open-Source Engineering Sprint organised by Coding Club RVCE as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The event was conducted for students of the 2025–2029 batch in a fully remote format, providing participants with an opportunity to explore existing open-source codebases, understand their architecture, and build their own implementations and improvements.

Theme

The theme of CloneFest 2.0 was “Read the Code. Reimagine the Possibilities.” Participants were challenged to study and understand existing software systems and use that understanding to develop their own solutions. The event featured two development challenges: Secure Secret Sharing, inspired by PrivateBin, and Bug Tracking and Developer Workflows, inspired by Bugzilla. The sprint focused on practical software engineering, code comprehension, debugging, feature development, and making thoughtful design decisions while working with unfamiliar codebases.

Participants

CloneFest 2.0 saw 56 squads registered on the event platform, with participation from students belonging to the 2025–2029 batch of colleges all over India. The event was conducted entirely online, allowing teams to collaborate remotely while accessing the challenges, submitting their projects, and tracking their progress through the event platform leaderboard.

Prize Pool Winners

The event featured a total prize pool of ₹7,000, awarded to the top three teams on the leaderboard. 1st Place was secured by dihtectives, 2nd Place by Odessy, and 3rd Place by nacho_cheese. The winning teams were recognised for their implementation, problem-solving approach, and ability to successfully build solutions based on the given open-source software challenges.

Judging / Evaluation

Submissions were evaluated based on their implementation of the respective challenge requirements, understanding of the existing codebase, functionality of the developed solution, and the quality of engineering and design decisions made by the teams. The leaderboard provided a common platform for tracking submissions and performance throughout the competition, with the final rankings determining the winners.
